Data

Most statistics are stretches of the truth. For example this website says that bacon and other processed meats increase your risk of cancer. Which is true but they didn't tell you the percentage of cancer that it increases which is only 0.042%. The three question that you need to ask before you believe a statistic are 1. How was the data collected? 2. What’s in there to learn? 3. How reliable is the information?. If you follow the links then you should be able to decide what information is true and what is false be yourself.

your can decide whether this is a stretch or the full truth.

  1. I have also dealt with some sites that have statistics like that. I read one place that being around smokers as a child makes you more likely to be an arsonist. They interviewed convicted arsonists and found that a couple were around smokers as a child. These are both facts, like you said, but there wasn't really any correlation. Data can definitely be twisted to show whatever you want it to show.
